Kim Keever Exposed

Kim Keever's photographic landscapes are at first glance reminiscent of the Hudson River School and the German Romantic painters, or expressionistic abstractions of flowing brushstrokes. However, they are actually detailed miniature scenes and water worlds that he builds himself, placed in a 200-gallon tank, submerged in water, and then photographs. The landscape and the abstract images all have paint dispersing through the water adding to the mysterious landscapes and random abstract compositions created in the tank. The “fake” becomes an illusionistic reality evoking a radiant document of his laboratory process.
